OpenAI Expands ChatGPT Group Chat Feature Globally Following Positive Feedback
Microsoft-backed OpenAI is rolling out group chat functionality to all ChatGPT users after successful initial testing. The feature, designed to facilitate collaborative work, allows up to 20 participants per chat via shareable links while maintaining privacy separation from individual conversations.
Group chats operate independently of personal chat histories, with ChatGPT generating fresh conversation threads for each new group. Participants must create minimal profiles displaying name, photo, and username for identification within the shared workspace.
The AI maintains its standard functionality in group settings, leveraging each user's best available model. All tools including file uploads, image generation, and voice dictation remain accessible, though responses count against the initiating user's message limit.
